Perhaps you have spent some time creating practice. Perhaps you have been "doing yoga" for years by now, maybe you meditate regularly or occasionally, and you can see how it has changed your perspective on many things. Maybe you have also begun to think seriously about spiritual practice because you have had moments of deep tranquility and relief from the cyclical thinking that we are usually entrained to in the modern societies we are living. Now you are ready to focus your attention on your personal practice and bring your experience of living in your body and the equanimity that comes with asana practice to a new level. In the west yoga is often taught as a practice of physical activity, a series of postures meant to stretch and strengthen the body and to bring more awareness of physical alignment, however the roots of yoga are a deep self-examination through meditation and breathwork and the asanas or postures were a means to that end. Ultimately yoga asana is a series of postures meant to create a body which can sit in contemplative meditation for long periods of time, to attain a level of Samadhi or detachment from the concerns of the physical world, and find the divine within. No matter where you are in your study and practice of deliberate attention, whether to your own mind or to your body, you may have realized there is yet another level that opens to you as you settle into your new awareness and rhythm. This is the nature of mindfulness for many of us; we practice bringing awareness to some aspect of life, and as we put our attention there for longer and longer periods of time, the thing we focus on changes, perhaps becoming deeper in meaning and clarity, or perhaps becoming more and more challenging, or completely irrelevant, as we see aspects of ourselves in life that we didn’t see before we gave this our full attention. ArjunaYuj combines all aspect of Hatha Yoga, the physical practice of postures or asana, the breath of pranayama and the one-pointed focus of meditation, as well as the use of japa or mantra which is the practice of repetitive devotional chanting. During our retreats you will also have the opportunity to experience Puja and Aarti, which are traditional prayer and ceremonies dedicated to all aspects of the Divine. While we do not separate the practices of yoga from one another we also do not present them as complex and esoteric concepts. Our aim is to help each participant become more deeply aligned within their own spiritual practice and to find the balance necessary to bring peace to your world and the life you are choosing to live right now. The aim of these “spiritual” practices are to bring peace from the distractions of the world and find the Divine within. What is Hatha Yoga? Pandit Rajmani Tigunait Spiritual head of the Himalayan Institute, has this to say about hatha yoga; “According to the scriptures, hatha yoga is a complete path leading to physical health, mental clarity, and spiritual illumination. Hatha yoga practices combine asanas (physical postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), concentration, and meditation. The word hatha is itself an indication of the goals and objectives of this practice: ha means “sun,” and tha means “moon.” Thus, “hatha yoga” is the practice that enables a practitioner to balance his or her solar and lunar energies. Hatha yoga practices create a state of harmony in body and mind by balancing the solar and lunar, masculine and feminine, active and passive aspects of oneself. Unless you combine the disciplines associated with breathing and meditation with the physical postures, you cannot expect to achieve this harmonious state. And without this inner harmony, we waste a great deal of our time and energy fighting the distractions and disturbances arising from both the inner and outer worlds.” ARJUNAYUJ Yoga Adventures Yoga Retreats don’t have to be hard work.
